Welcome!

“Great music is both technical and expressive, engaging both sides of the brain. Music fills a basic need in human life for beauty and expression. I love music profoundly for its power to bring people together and help us to reconnect positively with ourselves and the world.”

Early 20th-century French composer Erik Satie was an under-appreciated genius in his time. He is best-known for his early minimalist piano pieces, such as the early Gymnopedies, and later character pieces such as his Sports et Divertissiments. On Dec. 3rd, the Western Oregon Symphony will premiere a new arrangement of mine of three of his piano works: the “fourth” Gnossienne (1891 manuscript), Third Sarabande (1887), and “d’Holothurie” from Embryons Desséchés (1913).

This world-class professional string orchestra performed a concert at WOU in the evening, and during a special 1-hour master class session beforehand they came out and played and critiqued works by WOU composers, including the first two movements of my new string piece in progress called "Enkidu Suite," music inspired by the Gilgamesh epic. They did a remarkable job and I was very pleased. I'll be posting an audio sample from the event soon!
